FORT RAMON MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija (DWDD) – The 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army, took part in the country’s 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) .
The official hashtag for this year’s NSED is #BidaAngHanda. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) led the conduct of NSED quarterly and requires all government agencies, such as the Philippine Army, and the public to join the drill.
For this quarter, the 7ID simulated rescue and response on the following earthquake scenarios: 1. Collapsed building rescue; 2. Fire along a gas dump; and 3. Explosion with a unit armory or ammunition dump.
The simulation is done to test, validate and evaluate the 7ID’s preparedness, with plans still based on the duck, cover, and hold concept.
“The quarterly NSED is necessary for it prepares us for the worst possible scenario, so that our troops will know how to handle whatever situation comes up. We aim to be ready, fast and effective in our response to help the people when disaster strikes, and be able to mitigate whatever harm it brings,” said Major General Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of 7ID. 7DPAO / MCAG
