1 NPA killed, 3 high-powered firearms recovered by the gov’t troops

2IDFollowing a 15-minute firefight, one armed member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed and three high-powered firearms were recovered by the government troops at Brgy Lumañag, Lian, Batangas today, February 27, 2017, around 3:00 in the morning.

The name of the fallen rebel is yet to be determined while the recovered firearms included one M16, one M14, and one Garand Rifles.

The troops of 730th Combat Group, Philippine Airforce under the operational control of 202nd Brigade, 2nd Division were conducting combat operations due to the reported presence of more or less 15 armed men in the area who were conducting extortion activities.

It can be remembered that last January 29, 2017, the NPA rebels conducted extortion and burning of a building at Pico de Loro in Batangas City. Last week, February 21, Mr. Ernesto Samarita, also known as ‘Ka Mel’ who led the said atrocity and large-scale extortion, was apprehended and presently detained at Nasugbu MPS.

According to MGen Rhoderick Parayno, Commander of 2nd Division, the NPA are now feeling the heat of the intensive campaign launched in order to preempt the NPA terrorists in conducting any atrocity and to ensure peace and development within 2ID’s area of responsibility.

Likewise, he applauded the troops for the job well done.

Meanwhile, the troops in the area are still conducting pursuit operations to track down the fleeing bandits.
