Manila – The much-awaited announcement of the 24-man roster of Gilas Pilipinas will be on Sunday, January 22, head coach Chot Reyes confirmed.
The selection comprised of 12 rookies chosen from the recent special Gilas draft and 12 other players coming from each of the PBA team will be announced between the first and second PBA matches to be held at the PhilSports Arena.
The said matches will be coming from Alaska Aces and Mahindra Floodbuster at 4:30 p.m. and Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings against Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 6:45 p.m.
As remembered, in the opening of 2017, there were speculations that the Gilas pool will include a naturalized player, depending on the availability of Andray Blatche or Marcus Douthit. There will probably at least three player picks who have not joined the national team yet.
There are also rumors that TNT KaTropa’s Jason Castro, who already broadcast his retirement from the international game a day after the Philippines was wiped out at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament here last July, will be coming back to play for Gilas if ever he will be once again invited.
