Roxas Boulevard, Manila – The Headquarters Philippine Navy (HPN) became a quick stop of beauty queens vying for Miss Universe 2016 crown, prior boarding the motor yacht (M/Y) dedicated for the event, M/Y Happy Life, moored at the Commodore Divino Pier here on Jan. 19, 2017.
Officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees aboard the HPN were treated to a quick but momentous opportunity of having a closer look at the lovely ladies hailing from and representing different nations of the world. Navy chief, Vice Adm. Ronald Joseph Mercado, headlined the welcoming party which accorded the visiting candidates and pageant organizers military honor upon their arrival. Sailors also lined up snappily near the edges of the pier, demonstrating the traditional “manning the rail”, a method of saluting or rendering honors.
In order to ensure the safety and security of every individual participating in this year’s pageant of worldwide significance, the Philippine Navy (PN) utilized its elite unit, the Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG), to escort and provide security during the said visit and while the yacht was underway to an island resort in Batangas.
The security and accommodation rendered by the PN to the delegates of Miss Universe 2016 pageant were a manifestation of the Commands support and commitment to the tourism initiatives of the national government that promotes a positive image of the country and helps boost its economy. PAO-PN
