LOOSE FIREARMS  |  Arms and ammo surrendered to 5th Mechanized Battalion

BAROY, Lanao Del Norte (DWDD) – Another Coastal Municipality of Lanao del Norte Turn-overs Assorted Loose Firearms to the Army: Continuing effort in line with the Republic Act  No.10591 or an Act Against the Proliferation of Loose Firearms.

Municipality of Baroy, Lanao del Norte –Since the start of the campaign in February by the 5th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in line with the National Government Campaign against loose firearms anchored on RA 10591 (An act against the Proliferation of Loose Firearms) another thirty four (34) loose firearms were turned-over to the unit on October 10, 2018 in the Province of Lanao del Norte. This time the Municipal Government Officials headed by Hon. Rosa D. Olafsson, Municipal Mayor of Baroy, Lanao del Norte turned-over the said thirty-four (34) assorted loose high and low powered firearms, ten (10) assorted magazines and sixty (60) assorted ammunitions to Lieutenant Colonel Ronel R Manalo, the Commanding Officer of 5th Mechanized Infantry (Kaagapay) Battalion, Mechanized Infantry Division, PA in a simple ceremony held at the Municipal Tourism Plaza, Baroy, Lanao del Norte.

The thirty four (34) assorted loose firearms that were turned-over are the following: one (1) 7.62mm M14 rifle; eighteen (18) gauge shotguns; seven (7) Cal. 45 pistols; five (5) Cal. 38 pistols; one (1) 9mm pistol; one Cal.22 pistol and one (1) Cal. 22 rifle.

The event was witnessed and supervised by Col Thomas R Sedano Jr, Commander of the Joint Task Group Lanao del Norte and 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade with the

Municipal Government Officials of Baroy.

According to LTC Manalo, this continuous campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms is another big move of the authorities to maintain a peaceful and orderly society. He said that leaders in the community should always be conscious in sustaining the peace among the communities where they lead. Only the security forces are allowed to carry firearms. Therefore, enhanced coordination and reporting by the LGUs to the AFP, PNP and other Government Security Forces/Units are needed to assure the security of their constituents if sign of perceived threats appears.

LTC Manalo added that this show of commitment by the Municipality of Baroy is a sign of seeing the manifestation on the Rule of Law as aimed by the National Government.
