CAMP RAFAEL CRAME, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its intelligence gathering against businessmen involved in rice hoarding.
This is in light of the increase in prices of rice in the market and based on the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte to go after these unscrupulous traders.
According to PNP Chief Police Director General Oscar Albayalde, they have intensified their cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Food Authority (NFA) in the conduct of the operation.
This past week alone, a warehouse that is full of suspected smuggled rice from China was raided by the combined team from the PNP and Bureau of Customs – Bulacan.
The PNP Chief believes that these rice stocks are being kept illegally by some rice traders in their warehouses and will only surface in different markets once the prices have gone up. Thus the need to for the PNP, through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to apply for search warrants for them to search freely the warehouses of these suspected rice hoarders.
