READY | OCD prepared for TY Ompong

CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has assured the public that it is ready to respond on the expected onslaught of TY Ompong (IN Mangkhut).

In connection with this, OCD Administrator Usec. Ricardo Jalad has asked for the full cooperation of the public to attain the target of “zero casualties.”

Jalad added that it is about time to consider the establishment of the proposed Department of Disaster Management. The putting up of a DDM would be an effective move by the government is responding to natural (typhoons, earthquakes) and man-made disasters (fire, war, etc.). Currently, Disaster Management is being handled by the Office of Civil Defense as the overall coordinator, but this is just a Bureau under the Department of Defense.

The OCD is still dependent with the AFP for its Search and Retrieval Operations, the DSWD for its relief supplies and all Local Government Units for the other needs.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC has raised its alert level to RED in preparation for TY Ompons landfall. They have also prepositioned family food packs and other relief items that are ready for distribution as the need arises. AES / MCAG
