CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has been placed on Red Alert Status as a precautionary measure on the expected landfall of Typhoon Ompong.
According to AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Noel Detoyato, they have already prepositioned soldiers in areas expected to be hit hard by TY Ompong.
The heightened alert has been set as early as when President Rodrigo Duterte had his Official Visit to Israel and Jordan, which is a Standard Operating Procedure everytime the chief executive would go out of the country.
The AFP has ensured a 100% preparation in terms of conducting rescue operations, especially in areas that will be affected by TY Ompong, which falls under the Area of responsibility of the AFP Northern Luzon Command (NO(LCOM).
Col Detoyato has also ensured the redundancy or a back up system for communication of all pre-positioned troops and HADR personnel. He added that all leave passes of soldiers have cancelled until the effect of TY Ompong has subsided. AES / ALS
