ENCOUNTER  |  Gov’t Troops engage armed men in Lanao Del Sur

SULTAN DUMALONDONG, Lanao Del Sur (DWDD) – An encounter between government forces and armed occurred yesterday, September 6, 2018, at Barangay Sumalindao in Sultan Dumalondong, Lanao del Sur.

The firefight resulted in the neutralization of four (4) enemy; the death of two (2) civilians (initially wounded, rescued by troops, but declared Dad-on-Arrival at the Community Hospital); apprehension of nine (9) enemy supporters; one Killed-in-Action (KIA) on the government side (name withheld) and the recovery of war materials, namely: two (2) M16 rifles; two (2) Cal .45 pistols; six (6) magazines; one Improvised Explosive Device (IED); one Bandoleer; one Rifle Scope Bushnell; seventeen (17) Cellular Phones; assorted IT gadgets; one icom Radio; and various personal belongings.

According to reports, medical personnel of the 49th Infantry Battalion initially rescued two (2) female civilians that were caught in the crossfire and given first aid then brought to Tamparan Community Hospital, Tamparan, LDS, however, they were declared dead on arrival thereat. The 55IB manoeuvred and established blocking position at the western portion while 11Divisionn Reconnaissance Company (11DRC) reinforced and conducted blocking position at the eastern side of encounter site and alerted Lumbatan Fire Base for Field Artillery support;

Meanwhile, the nine apprehended enemy supporters were brought to ACP 49IB at Poblacion, Bayabao, Butig, LDS for interview and further brought to Headquarters, 103Infantry Brigade at Kampo Ranao, Marawi City for disposition.

The cadaver of the hero soldier was extricated in the engagement area and brought to St Peter Funeral Homes, Iligan City. 49IB CMO
