JUDGMENT CALL  |  PNP-CIDG team in Senate purely advisory not an arresting team

CAMP RAFAEL CRAME, Quezon City (DWDD) – The PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) deployed within the vicinity of the Senate is there on an advisory capacity only.

According to PNP Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana, it is the “judgement call” of the round commander if they will be “pulling-out” of the area.

The PNP-CIDG was deployed to assist in the event that authorities would take into custody Senator Antonio Trillanes.

Durana clarified that the presence of CIDG personnel is to assist by providing ideas or inputs on the legality on the issue, but not to directly arrest the senator.

But S Supt Durana added that in case the Armed Forces of the Philippines decides to arrest Sen Trillianes based on the military justice system they may provide assistance.

It can be recalled that the Department of National Defense stated that with the voiding of the amnesty given Trillanes, the AFP has jurisdiction over him and does not need any arrest warrant to be placed in their custody.

Meanwhile the Makati Regional Trial Court (Makati-RTC) has set on September 13 the hearing for the request of the Department of justice (DOJ for the release of an Arrest Warrant and Hold-Departure Order (HDO) against the senator for Rebellion. AES / PNP-PIO / MCAG
