VIGAN, Ilocos Sur (DWDD) – In an effort to improve the national and local communities’ preparedness for disaster management, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) will conduct today, August 16, 2018, its 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Apart from the duck, cover, and hold enactment from public participants, the drill also portrayed a simulation of several scenarios during a real earthquake such as search and rescue operation, fire suppression, medical response team operation, traffic control, and police action against possible looting incidents.
Formerly known as the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) before its name change and reorganization in 2010, the NDRRMC is comprised of various working groups from the government, non-government, civil sector, and private sector organizations. The NDRRMC is administered by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) under the Department of National Defense (DND).
Among the key officials present in the event are OCD Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Director Rodolfo Encabo, OCD Director Ma. Theresa Escolano, OCD Director for Capacity Building and Training Service Susana Juangco, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Deputy Director Dr. Bartolome Bautista, Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson, and Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina.
The NSED is part of the OCD’s ‘Bida Ang Handa’ campaign that aims to promote disaster preparedness through public participation. NDRRMC / OCD / MCAG
