The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 2 office bestowed recognition to Army Sergeant Ella Alibania, assigned at the 2nd Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service (CRS) Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), as one of the 10 Outstanding Women in Region 2. The presentation of award was made during the 7th Annual IDDU Honor Roles for Women recognition night held on July 11 at the Events Place, Hotel Carmelita, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Sgt. Alibania was given the award for h
er “exemplifying genuine concern for the welfare of rebel returnees and her untiring efforts at sustaining the conduct of outreach activities, medical and dental missions for the poor and desolate communities.” In 2015, Sgt. Alibania facilitated the surrender of two NPA rebels, through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP). The rebel returnees, Bong Erese and common-law-wife Cheryl Reborado and the couple’s sickly daughter, who now enjoy a better
life within the folds of the law. She is also very active in supporting the projects of the LGU’s and various stakeholders in Cagayan Valley.
When asked about the honor she received, Sgt. Alibania said it ca
me as a big surprise to her because her friends knew
about it first and they were the ones who informed her. “I only knew about it when they greeted me after they saw my name listed at the PIA website as one of the awardees,” she added.
The organizers of the search for the 10 Outstanding Women in Region 2 resorted to paperless nomination in choosing their honorees by interviewing people in the community where the nominees belong before they chose the final awardees. Sgt. Alibania was nominated by someone she worked within a mission. (Anabel T. Lasaten)
