Halfway houses play an important role in transforming former rebels into productive members of society. It is a facility where various programs ranging from psychosocial healing, education and skills training, and even health check-ups can be conducted.
Since former rebels can be consolidated at halfway houses, it also acts a convergence hub of different government agencies for the provision of their assistance to former rebels.
Constructed in 2013, the Happy Home in Mati, Davao Oriental has become a temporary home to many former rebels in preparation for their reintegration to society. Its operation, activities, and programs for former rebels have served as a benchmark for other local government units to emulate. This is attested by the several visits and benchmarking activities done by other local government units at Happy Home.
At present, Happy Home houses several former rebels who have undergone various activities, orientation seminars, and education and skills training while awaiting the processing of their assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.TFBalikloob / MCAG
