ROLE MODEL  |  AFP Chief dedicates “Ulirang Ama” award to soldiers

AFP Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr receives the “Ulirang Ama” award from the Ulirang Ina Ama Foundation, Inc. on Father’s Day, June 17, at the Manila Hotel. Joined by his wife and daughter, General Galvez was honored for his contribution to society through his role as a military leader.

CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr received the “Ulirang Ama” award, a recognition of fathers with exemplary contribution to society.

General Galvez received the award for the military sector and dedicated the honor to the fathers in the AFP, “most of whom are away from their families and are risking their life for the peace and security of the country.”

“I know the hardships of being a father who constantly has to be far from home as duty calls. I know the pain of not being there during special occasions or milestones in our children’s life,” General Galvez said.

“Even more deserving of this award are those who have given their lives for love of country and people. I swear that I will take care of your families and that your sacrifice will not be in vain,” General Galvez added.

The was award given on Father’s Day, June 17, at the Manila Hotel by the Ulirang Ina/Ama Awards Foundation, Inc. It honored 24 other recipients including Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Antonio Carpio (Law and Judiciary), Philippine National Police Director General Oscar Albayalde (Law Enforcement), and two others from the military namely: BGen Joseph Villanueva and LtGen Raul Urgello (Retired).
