CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – A month after his assumption as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff, General Carlito G Galvez, Jr visits the AFP Health Service Command (AFPHSC) to personally greet and check the status of 61 battle casualties being treated at the Heroes Ward, V. Luna Medical Center, AFPHSC on Monday, May 21, 2018.
Luna Medical Center is under the command of the AFPHSC. The hospital changed its name from AFP Medical Center to AFP Health Service Command in May last year.
General Galvez, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Arnel Duco, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, J1 and Maj. Gen. Isidro Purisima, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, was welcomed by AFPHSC Commander Brig. Gen. Edwin Leo Torrelavega in an arrival honors ceremony.
The Chief of Staff conducted an inspection of hospital facilities upon his arrival to determine which of the facilities still needs improvement.
Since one of his priorities as the new AFP Chief is to honor the heroes of Marawi, General Galvez and his wife Marissa, gave financial assistance amounting to P5,000 to each of the battle casualty confined at the Heroes Ward where most patients were injured during the five month Battle in Marawi against the Daesh inspired terrorists.
“Magpagaling ka ha, salamat sa iyong serbisyo at sakripisyo,” Galvez was heared telling most of the battle casualties whom he took time to talk to one by one during the visit.
General Galvez was the highest Commander deployed in Marawi during the seige and he have personal experience of the struggles of the soldiers during the war.
“I recognize their exemplary courage in different combat operations, most especially those who fought for the liberation of Marawi City from Maute-IS terrorists,” Gen. Galvez said.
