KaPALAYapaan | Urbiztondo Farmers Celebrates KANINhawaan Feast Day 

TAGO, Surigao del Sur (DWDD) – A ceremonial harvest dubbed as KANINhawaan Feast Day of the project kaPALAYapaan of the 36th Infantry “Valor” Battalion and the THPAL Nickel Corporation was celebrated in Sitio Capangdan, Brgy Urbiztondo, Claver, Surigao del Norte on May 12, 2018.





Following the success of the Project KaPALAYApaan in the province of Surigao del Sur, the 36IB under the 402nd Infantry Brigade has partnered with THPAL Nickel Corporation thru its Community Relations and launched the said project last November 29, 2018 at the Municipal Hall of Claver, Surigao del Norte with the motto of “I Believe”.

The KANINhawaan Feast Day is a farmer’s celebration of a bountiful harvest in availing project kaPALAYapaan. The farmers in Brgy Urbiztondo, Claver, SDN situated at the foot of the infamous “Red Mountain’ were encouraged to turn their twelve (12) years laterite-laden and abandoned farm lands into organic rice fields through the project kaPALAYapaan. A total of 15.5 hectares was dedicated for the said project as its pilot area.





Said celebration was graced by Hon Arturo Carlos M Egay Jr, the Provincial Vice – Governor of Surigao del Norte with Regional Directors, Ms Marie Faye Aurora Cariño of NEDA CARAGA and Mr Abel James Monteagudo of DA CARAGA and other provincial officials. The local government officials of Claver, SDN led by Hon Eddie P Gokiangkee – Municipal Mayor also celebrated with the farmers. BGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal AFP, Commander of 402nd Infantry Brigade, and the three (3) Infantry Battalions under its operational control participated in the said activity. Different media outfits from Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Butuan City also came to witness the bountiful harvest of the farmers.

The IP leaders and farmers from Agusan del Norte together with their provincial government officials headed by Ms Erma Suyo, PDRRMO officer of ADN and the Commander of 701st Infantry Brigade, BGen Ruben Basiao AFP, stationed at Davao Oriental also witnessed the said celebration and hopes to replicate same activity in their respective areas.





“A challenge was presented and we have accepted it because we strongly believe in the project kaPALAYapaan. What we are witnessing now is the new roles of your army to alleviate the plight of the farmers and facilitate convergence in the delivery of basic

services of our government. We have partnered with THPAL and other stakeholders who share our common goals of serving the people to attain peace and development in the community. Your 36IB will always be your committed partner to bring programs and projects to every communities”, LTC Xerxes A Trinidad PA said.

BGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal AFP in his statement said, “This is the 3rd KANINhawaan Feast Day of the project KaPALAYapaan, twice in Brgy Lindoy, Surigao del Sur and the province of Agusan Del Norte will also now embrace the said project. The Philippine Army, specifically the 402nd Infantry Brigade, is fully committed in this project kaPALAYapaan. This is the evolution of the role of the Army, we are now the so-called agent of change. Our organization is here in order to help and extend whatever help we could offer to the LGUs with our only intent of having a productive and festive community that will eventually uplift our lives. The presence of our valued guest from different government agencies sends a message that the government is fully committed in its peace and development program. Hence, it’s not impossible that we could attain peace and development in the entire CARAGA Region thru the project kaPALAYapaan”.

The project kaPALAYapaan is a program for the farmer sector which means “there is peace in rice farming” to address the perennial problem of the farmers on “high cost, low yield” farm production. It is a convergence of stakeholders that aims to increase the farm production of the farmers, promotes organic farming, and introduces new farming techniques.  36IB Valor / MCAG
