CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The over-all conduct of the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election was generally peaceful.
This was the assessment made by AFP Chief of Staff Gen Carlito Galvez during the Press Conference held at the Aguinaldo Room of the AFP Commissioned Officers Clubhouse at Camp Gen Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Although there were forty-two (42) incidents of violence recorded during the election, only seven (7) were confirmed election-related after validation.
Acording to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), almost 100% of polling precinct opened throughout the country for the conduct of the BSK election.
Gen Galvez adde that 30,000 troops from the AFP were deployed to ensure the conduct of safe and orderly elections. A major contributor to the successful of the AFP and PNPs effort during the election is its stakeholder engagement, like the resolution of the problem of Rido in Mindanao and the call for the citizens to join and exercise their right to vote.
In the midst of the press conference, Gen Galvez confirmed the encounter between government forces and terrorist-bandit groups in Sulu. Initial reports confirm the recovery of three (3) remains, one was foreign looking. Authorities are still verifying its identity and nationality.
Meanwhile, Galvez denied reports that six (6) soldiers were detained for violating the COMELEC Gun Ban. He also denied reports that a ceasefire was declared by the Communist terrorist for this election in the CARAGA Region.
Gen Galvez also belied reports of alleged “Withdrawal of Support” for President Rodrigo Duterte by some soldiers assigned in Mindanao. He blames anti-government propagandist for this “fake news.” AES / Photos by Nick Echeverria
