RELENTLESS OPERATIONS  |  17IB clashes with NPAs in Cagayan

CAMP GEN SERVILLANO AQUINO, Tarlac City (DWDD) – Army troopers of the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) encountered a group of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Mureg, Barangay. Balani, Sto Niño of Cagayan Province at 10:36 in the morning of May 3, 2018 (Thursday).

The firefight took place against thirty (30) members of the Communist NPA Terrorist Group (CNTG) led by alias Bladdy, while troops from the 17th Infantry Battalion (17IB) under the Joint Task Force (JTF) “Tala” of the 5th Infantry Division, was conducting security patrol in the area.

The firefight lasted for about twenty (20) minutes, wherein the troops pursued the Terrorist Group in the adjacent vicinity which again resulted to another skirmish for about ten (10) minutes at 11:40 AM.

This incident resulted to the wounding of five (5) Army personnel. Engaged troops are still conducting pursuit operations against the withdrawing Communist Terrorists, who also suffered undetermined casualties.

NOLCOM will be relentless in conducting Focused Military Operations (FMO) in identified NPA affected areas in order to protect our people from any threat posed by this terrorist group.
