CAMP RAFAEL CRAME, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be fielding 300 personnel to participate with the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolt on Sunday, February 25.
The police personnel will join the re-enactment of the historical “salubungan” at EDSA led by forces against the Marcos dictatorship that happened back in 1986.
According to PNP Chief Police Director General Ronald Bato dela Rosa, the said personnel will be augmented by personnel from the National Capital Region Police Office that will help with the security, traffic management, emergency response, and with the public service and other activities of the anniversary.
In connection with this, Quezon City Police District Director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar stated that the district will augment 1,500 personnel that will provide crowd dispersal management, especially in areas where protest are expected.
Aside from the “salubungan”, other EDSA activities include a Holy Mass at the Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA in Ortigas, Pasig City; free Medical, Dental, and Optical Service; Diskwento Caravan of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Jobs Fair by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); and a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “EDSA 2018: Effecting Change Towards Strengthened Democracy”. AES
