MANILA (DWDD) – The Department of Health in coordination with the National Capital Regional office created a Regional Dengue Immunization Task Force to oversee the post-immunization activities of the region at all levels including the distribution and installation of IEC materials (FAQs, brochures, leaflets) in different public elementary schools within the Metro.
To allay the fears and doubts of the public on the issue of the dengue vaccine, a community dialogue with the Health Secretary was conducted in Parang Elementary School in Marikina where the vaccine was first introduced to the public on April 2016. The dialogue was attended by parents, teachers and students including barangay officials.
Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III assured the public that the DOH is ready and is constantly taking steps towards resolving the issue.
He also reiterated the importance of cleanliness in the fight against mosquitos, he is urging everyone to participate in the Department of Health 4S strategy which consist of:
a. Seek and destroy mosquito breeding places
b. Self-protection measures
c. Seek early consultation
d. Say Yes to selective fogging
The Health Secretary also led the installation of mosquito traps and insecticide –treated screens in some classrooms and distributed letters addressed to parents of students vaccinated with Dengvaxia that contains some frequently asked questions and dengue hotlines.
The Health Secretary also disclosed that similar dialogues will also be held not only in schools but also in communities like Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and Central Visayas where the Dengvaxia vaccine was piloted.DOH/MCAG
