INTENSIFIED CAMPAIGN | AFP aims to cut NPA strength in half in 2018

CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines aims to neutralize half of the remaining NPA members this 2018.

According to AFP Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, they are just continuing the momentum gained in recent campaigns against the communist-terrorist group.

From 2016 to 2017, the AFP was able to cut the strength of the communist-terrorist group nationwide by forty percent. This is aside from the recovered firearms and war-materials and the decline of NPA-infested barangays.

The AFP estimates that the NPA strength nationwide is down to 3,700, because a large number of their members have lost faith in the cause and have voluntarily surrendered.

Meanwhile, Gen Guerrero admitted that their sustained campaigns against various terror groups, like the NPA, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) has been successful with the Martial Law in place in Mindanao.

He explained that with the imposition and extension of Martial Law, they are able to operate smoothly and swiftly against these threat groups, like the setting up of checkpoints, conducting vigilance and visibility patrols and intensified military operations. AES
