CAMP RAFAEL CRAME, Quezon City (DWDD) – Operatives of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group( CIDG) Anti Transnational Crime Unit ( ATCU) was able to apprehend an illegal recruiter in an operation in Pedro Gil, Manila on November 9, 2017.
The suspect was identified as Melanie Mijarez, resident of Dasmarinas Cavite.
According to PNP CIDG ATCU Chief, P Supt. Roque Merdeguia, the “modus operandi” of the suspect was to ask P50,000 to P100,000 as Processing Fee and Booking Expenses from her victims. She would promise them that they will be sent to Macau as soon as possible, but after a few months of waiting nothing happens.
The arrest of Mijarez was due to complaints filed by all of her victims. Based on the findings of the PNP CIDG ATCU, Mijarez has no license from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to conduct any form of recruitment.
The CIDG is urging other victims of Mijarez to get in touch with their office and formally file their complaint.
Mijarez will be charged with violation of Republic Act 8042 or Large Scale Illegal Recruitment and violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code for Estafa. AES/ALS
