CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – Retired LtGen Reynaldo B. Mapagu, former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Vice Chief of Staff is the newest addition to the Department of National Defense (DND) leadership as Undersecretary for Civil, Veterans, and Retiree Affairs (USCVRA). His appointment was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on September 27, 2017.
Usec. Mapagu replaced Usec. Eduardo D. Del Rosario who assumed the post of Chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) with the rank of Secretary last July.
A decorated Scout Ranger who served for more than 38 years in the AFP, Usec. Mapagu held various key field and staff positions. He also served as Commanding General of the Philippine Army; Commander of the National Capital Region Command; Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, and the Regiment Commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment, among others.
After his retirement from the military service, Usec. Mapagu joined the North Luzon Railways Corporation as a member of the Board of Directors.
Usec. Mapagu received numerous combat, administrative and proficiency awards and commendations which include the Philippine Legion of Honor (Degree of Officer), Gawad sa Kaunlaran, US Army Achievement Medal and the US Army Commendation Medal.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatarungan” Class of 1978, Usec. Mapagu undertook various professional and specialization courses in Scout Ranger operations, airborne, infantry, peace-keeping, comptrollership and strategic studies. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Manuel Luis Quezon University and Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Studies from the Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.
Considered to be a very welcome addition to the One Defense Team, Usec. Mapagu’s leadership and expertise will certainly steer the performance of bureaus, agencies, and units under his functional supervision, as well as greatly contribute to the attainment of the DND’s mission. ALS/MCAG
