MILITARY AID  |  Russia to give Phl AK-47 Assault Rifles

SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan (DWDD) – The Russian government has extended its support to the Philippines in its fight against terrorism.

According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Russia is set to deliver the 5,000 Kalashnikov rifles and 20 military trucks on October 22 and it is to be formally turned-over to the Philippine government on October 25..

He reiterated that the military materials are all brand new and this will be given for free.

The revelation was made by President Rodrigo Duterte during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Scout Ranger Ville situated at the border of Barangay Calumpang and Tartaro-Sibul in San Miguel, Bulacan.

“As part of the, dala ko galing Russia, pumunta kami almost just below 24 hours – we will have the Kalashnikov [rifle],” he said.

“So, and 5000 siguro sa inyo ang baril Kalashnikov na,” he noted. “Mag-aral nalang kayo ng Russian para makumpleto (mabuo) niyo,” the President said in jest.

It can be remembered that Duterte visited Russia in May but had to cut short the trip because of Marawi City incident. The President did not mention what exact model will be provided. Kalashnikov rifle, also known as Avtomat (Automatic) Kalashnikova or AK, has different variants. It has variants using 5.56×45 mm NATO. AES/ALS
