HANDS OFF  |  PDEA to take lead in War on Drugs

CAMP CRAME, Quezon City (DWDD) – “Hands off” kami!

This was the statement made by Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa in response to the order of President Rodrigo Duterte removing the PNP as lead agency in the War on Drugs.

This after the president ordered the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to handle all the anti-drugs operations of the administration.

Dela Rosa said that the PNP can now concentrate their personnel and resources on other police matters. Under the anti-drug campaign, the PNP poured out 100 percent of their resources on the campaign, but with this turn of events, they could now focus on the issue of criminality.

But despite the pronouncement, Dela Rosa has expressed sadness over the development , since they have accomplished so much in their fight against the illegal drug trade. It can be recalled that a month after the War on Drugs was first ordered stopped by the President, it was the citizens who clamoured for its return because of the proliferation once again of drug peddlers and users in the communities.

Although Dela Rosa insisted that the PNP respects and would follow the directive of the Chief Executive. It can be recalled that this is the second time the president took the War on Drugs campaign away from the PNP because of cases of erring policemen. AES/ALS
