PUERTO PRINSESA, Palawan (DWDD) – To sustain humanitarian and civil military engagement in southern Palawan, the 44th Marine Company facilitated the Educational Field Trip (LAKBAY TRIBO) of Indigenous Peoples of Sitio Kelwi, Bgy Saraza, Brooke’s Point last October 6, 2017.
1LT JM Cañonaso PN (M) accompanied the 53 IPs belonging to the Palaw’an tribe of Sitio Kelwi, Bgy Saraza with their barangay officials headed by Chairperson Romel Mahinay.
Lakbay Tribo is one of the community support programs of the Command, which provides responsive social services to the IP communities. This is also a follow-up community engagement activity to the “Tribal Community Outreach” held in the same sitio last September 2017.
The Lakbay Tribo allowed the IPs to experience and visit the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC) and static display of different aircrafts of the Philippine Air Force and Naval Air Group at TOG7 Hangar. The group also toured the newly-opened SM City Puerto Princesa, where they experienced to play in the gaming station and other recreational facilities. Likewise, the tribe experienced to dine at a well-known fast food restaurant.
The support of the Provincial Government of Palawan, the municipal Government of Brooke’s Point and partner sponsors made the field trip successful.
The Lakbay Tribo also widened the horizon of the IPs outside their community and feel the sincerity of the AFP in peace building and get them away from being exploited and recruited by the Communist Terrorists (New Peoples Army).
