CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines is set to turn-over to the Philippine National Police the 3,000 M4 assault rifles donated by China this morning.
The weapons were part of the second batch of arms and equipment donated by Beijing through Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jinhua in a simple ceremony held at the canopy area of the AFP General Headquarters in Camp Gen Emilio Aguinaldo.
According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, President Rodrigo Duterte instructed him to give the weapons to the PNP to fill their need for additional arms in order to accomplish their mission on the “war on drugs.”.
It can be recalled that the PNP was about to acquire 26,000 assault rifles from the United States but the deal was called-off after it was questioned by some American politicians due to issues of “extra-judicial killings.”.
The first batch of M-16 rifle given last June by China was also transferred by the AFP to the PNP. Most of which are being used by police commandos battling the Daesh-inspired Maute terror group in Marawi. AES/ALS
