CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen Eduardo Año formally received this morning, October 5, 2017, $22-Million worth of firearms and equipment donated by the Chinese government in a simple ceremony at the canopy area of the General Headquarters in Camp Gen Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
According to AFP Public Affair chief Marine Col Edgard Arevalo, the donation consists of 3,000 high-powered M4 assault rifles, 3 million assorted ammunitions and 90 Sniper Scope.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua led the turn-over of the firearms and equipment from the Chinese government.
This is the second batch of firearms donated by Beijing to Manila as part of its assistance to help in the campaign against terrorism and criminality.
The first batch of 3,000 M16 rifles with 5 million ammunition and 90 Sniper Rifles with 800,000 ammunition worth P370 million was turned-over the government last June.
The initial donation of M16 rifles was turned over to the Philippine National Police while the sniper rifles was used by AFP troops operating in Marawi against the Daesh-inspired Maute terror group. AES / Photo and Video Amihan Sabillo
