RESCUE  |  Fleet-Marine Forces recovers 2 Indonesian nationals

NFWM, Zamboanga City (DWDD) – Fleet-Marine Forces of the Joint Task Force Sulu, Western Mindanao Command rescued 2 Indonesian kidnap victims at vicinity Brgy, Bunot, Indananan, Sulu around 6:30 in the morning of September 7, 2017.

The elements were composed of the Philippine Marine Ready Force (PMRF) Sulu, Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 (MBLT 1), Marine Battalion Landing Team 3 (MBLT 3), Marine Intelligence Division (MID) Sulu and Headquarters Support Company (HSC). Deputy Commander, PMRF-Sulu Col. Noel D Beleran PN (M) (GSC) led the rescue of the 2 Indonesian nationals in Brgy. Bunot Indanan, Sulu. The rescued victims were identified as Sarapuddin Koni and Sawal Maryam.

Both victims were brought to Headquarters PMRF Sulu for debriefing and upon arrival at Headquarters NFWM, the victims will undergo medical check-up prior turn over to authorities and eventually to the representatives of the Indonesian government.

Last Aug. 20, 2017, a Vietnamese crew member of MV Royal 16, known as Do Trung Huie, who was held captive by the Abu Sayyaf Group was also rescued by the element of Joint Task Force Basilan at Mataja Island, Basilan.

Despite the Marawi City crisis, the Commander of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Rear Adm. Rene V Medina AFP assures that its Fleet-Marine Forces in the different Joint Task Forces of Western Mindanao Command stand ready to prevent any threat posed by different groups in its Area of Responsibility.
