EARTHQUAKE  |  Magnitude 8.0 Quake hits Coast of Chiapas, Mexico

A great earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 occurred off the Coast of Chiapas Mexico today, 8 September 2017 at 12:49 PM (Philippine Standard Time) located at 14.9 oN, 94.4 oW with a depth of 33 km.

An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines in the region near the epicenter within minutes to hours.

NO EVACUATION ORDER is in effect. Coastal communities of the following provinces fronting the Pacific Ocean are ADVISED TO WAIT AND LISTEN FOR UPDATES:

Batanes Group of Islands,

Eastern Samar,

Cagayan,

Northern Samar,

Ilocos Norte,

Leyte,

Isabela,

Southern Leyte,

Quezon,

Surigao del Norte,

Aurora,

Surigao del Sur,

Camarines Norte,

Davao Oriental,

Camarines Sur,

Davao Del Norte,

Albay,

Davao Del Sur,

Catanduanes,

Davao Occidental, and,

Sorsogon
