MANILA (DWDD) – Foreign Affairs secretary and 2019 SEA Games organizing committee chairman Alan Peter Cayetano revealed that the Philippines will be hosting the 2019 Southeast Asian Games across three provinces in Central Luzon
The government is studying the possibility of holding it at New Clark City in Angeles, Pampanga, which will cover 100 hectares of idle land that is being eyed for development of a sports infrastructure and training centers, while the other areas being considered are Bulacan and Zambales.
In connection with this, Senator Joel Villanueva suggested to the organizers to consider holding the international sporting event at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The Philippine Arena is a 140-hectare multi-purpose indoor arena at Ciudad de Victoria, considered as the world’s largest indoor arena with a maximum seating capacity of 51,898.
The arena boast of great facilities plus add the extra ordinary hospitality of Bulakenyos. If sports facilities and infrastructures have yet to be built in Clark, it would be much better to utilize the Philippine Arena which is only waiting to be showcased, Villanueva added.
Meanwhile, Cayetano admitted that though building a sports hub in Clark might be a “win-win situation”, some facilities might not be completed in two years.
The senator believes that the country’s hosting of 2019 SEA Games will serve as a good opportunity to boost our sports and tourism sector, where apart from showcasing the beauty of the country and the hospitality of our people. It will also be a good opportunity to intensify the training of our athletes, and to fill in the gaps in our sports program facilities. AES / MCAG
