QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  |  DILG passes ISO 9001:2008 surveillance audit, gears up for transition to 9001:2015 certification

QUEZON CITY (DWDD) – A year after bagging the much coveted ISO 9001-2008 certification, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) proudly announces its passing of the recently concluded first surveillance audit for the 23 sampled processes enrolled in the Quality Management System (QMS).

The surveillance audit was done to ensure the maintenance of the effectiveness and continual improvement of the DILG-Central Office’ (CO) QMS.

DILG Assistant Secretary for Finance and Comptrollership and Deputy Quality Management Representative Ester A. Aldana shares that the Department only received observations from the Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars, Inc, the external auditors.

“The first surveillance audit was an opportunity to demonstrate our organization’s brand as ‘Matino, Mahusay, at Maaasahang Kagawaran para sa Mapagkalinga at Maunlad na Pamahalaang Lokal’ in pursuit of quality service as we continue our journey towards excellence,” says Aldana.

This means that there were no minor and major non-conformities for enrolled QMS processes of the Department.

During the one-day surveillance audit, two AJA external auditors audited the Department’s top management, QMS Secretariat, and process owners of the concerned bureaus and services.

There are 52 QMS processes at the DILG- CO which are enrolled under ISO 9001:2008. Of the 52, ten are core processes, 27 are support processes, three are management processes, 10 are monitoring and improvement processes, and two are document and records control procedures.

The Department’s QMS was established in compliance to Executive Order (EO) 605 directing all government offices to implement QMS that will institutionalize structures, mechanisms, and standards in government to ensure quality in systems and processes in government operations.

Ready for ISO 9001:2015

Aldana says the Department is setting its sights to the next higher level — the ISO 9001:2015.

“From the ISO 9001:2008 which covers only the Central Office, the Department is aiming to include the Regional Offices in the ISO 9001:2015 certification,” she states.

A series of QMS training workshops on the new ISO standard has been conducted and rolled out to the central and regional offices.

“Come 2018, the AJA auditors will no longer conduct a surveillance audit for the ISO 9001:2008 but instead, they will conduct a transition audit for the ISO 9001:2015,” the DILG Assistant Secretary explains. DILG / MCAG
