PNP GOES HAMMER AND TONGS VS. ILLEGAL GAMBLING

bato-dela-rosaPhilippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald M Dela Rosa vowed to hit-hard on syndicates engaged in illegal numbers games operating under the cover of legitimate government-authorized Small-Town Lottery.

At the same time, the Chief PNP appealed to STL operators to police their own ranks against illegal gambling activities particularly bookies, jueteng, swetres and other forms of illegal numbers games.

“I am appealing, I want to take this opportunity to authorized STL operators na magpakatotoo tayo, pag kami may nahuli d’yan na mga ‘bookies’ at mga tao nyo at sasaluhin ninyo, ibang usapan na ‘yan,” the Chief PNP said.

“It is very sad part sa mga pulis na ito namang STL operators, paghinuli namin sa na nagbu-bookies, sasabihin nila na legal ‘yan, amin ‘yan. We will go all out, matira matibay, uubusin ko lahat kayo dahil ayaw kong lagi na lang PNP binubuntunan ng sisi.” Dela Rosa lamented.

This developed as Dela Rosa gave Police Regional Directors 15 days to stamp out illegal gambling in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“I am directing all directors to go all out against illegal gambling. I’m giving them 15 days to stop illegal gambling. If they cannot stop them I will relieve them,” he said.

He delegated to the Regional Directors the authority to relieve Provincial Directors who will fall short of expectation in the nationwide anti-illegal gambling campaign.

Provincial Directors, on the other hand, were given express authority to relieve Chiefs of Police who will be found remiss in their duty to run after illegal gambling activities. (PNP-PIO)
