Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City – Members of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Core Group meet to discuss relief efforts in response to the evolving situation in Marawi City and other areas in Mindanao.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Officer-In-Charge Asec Kristoffer James E Purisima chaired the meeting attended by Civil Defense Deputy Administrator for Operations Asec Rodolfo Demosthenes C Santillan, as well as representatives from Member Agencies namely: DILG, DSWD, DOH, DEPEd, DOTR, DPWH, PCG, AFP, and PNP.
The National Council remains on BLUE ALERT and all Mindanao OCD Regional Offices and Regional DRRM Councils are on RED ALERT to closely monitor the situation. The Regional Response Cluster in ARMM has been activated while the National Response Cluster is on standby for immediate mobilization.
DSWD and DOH ensured the availability of prepositioned Family Food Packs, hygiene kits, medicines, and other necessary items and supplies intended for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in affected areas.
Although there are no evacuees sheltered at government evacuation centers, three (3) evacuation centers open in Iligan City are ready to accommodate IDPs from Marawi City. Quick Response Teams are on standby for possible augmentation in the evacuation.
DILG has directed concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) to ensure the safety and welfare of residents in their areas of responsibility.
Residents in affected areas are advised to heed the call of Local Government Officials. Meanwhile, the public is advised to continue monitoring the situation through mainstream and social media. The general public is reminded to refrain from disseminating unverified and/or false information that complicate the situation and put at risk government responders and personnel.
“The situation is being addressed by the Regional Government, together with the AFP and PNP. Our citizens can be assured that the National Government through the NDRRMC is taking stock of all available resources and is prepared to respond if needed. The welfare and protection of our citizens is our primary concern,” said Asec Purisima.
