President Rodrigo Duterte has finally signed the Proclamation No. 164 which declares January 25 for the next years as the annual day of national remembrance for the “heroic sacrifice” of the Special Action Force (SAF) – 44 commandos who died in the Mamasapano incident in 2015.
Duterte asks all the Filipinos to remember the heroism of the SAF44 and to recall the daily sacrifices of the uniformed personnel who fights for the continuous peace and security of our country.
“As the nation honors the memory of the SAF44, their heroism also serves as a constant reminder of the continuing sacrifices being made by our valiant uniformed men and women in the line of duty,” Duterte stated.
Last January 24, the President had a dialogue with the family members of the SAF44 and he made a promise that he will declare a day of remembrance to honor the fallen commandos.
He also approved the awarding of Medal for Valor to the remaining 42 SAF commandos since Senior Inspector Gednat Tabdi and Police Officer 2 Romeo Cempron have been awarded with the said recognition last year.
Until now, it is not clarified if the said date will be a Special Holiday or a regular day. – EPJA
