3 missing soldiers found dead in Bukidnon

bukidnonEastern Mindanao Spokesperson Major Ezra Balagtey confirmed the death of three government troops of the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB) based in Northern Bukidnon who were earlier reported missing.

The bodies which bore signs of torture and mutilation were found on Sitio Kaleb, Brgy. Kibalabag, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon yesterday around three o’clock.

8IB have yet to reveal the identity of the bodies but verified that they are members of Bayanihan Team Activity (BTA) squad.

Some reports said that the victims secured their Subsistence Allowance in Malaybalay and failed to return to their station.

There are indications that the three forcibly resisted the armed men who are suspected members of CPP-NPA.

Meanwhile, two soldiers of Army infantry at Purok 7, Brgy Telafas, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat Province were abducted by alleged NPA men today about 7:45 in the morning.

Columbio Municipal Police Station Commander PSI Bernard Francia named the victims as Sgt. Solaiman Calocop and Pfc. Samuel Garay of the 39th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army based in Makilala Town, Cotabato Province.

Francia said the two soldiers were blocked and forcibly taken at Sitio Lamais in Barangay Datal Blao.

39th Infantry Battalion soldiers together with Francia’s men of Columbio MPS is currently conducting a pursuit operations to rescue the victims.

To prevent other atrocities against the CPP-NPA, Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, commander of Eastern Mindanao Command directed his units to be on alert on possible attacks.

“Alert troops for possible attacks. Protect the communities from criminal acts of extortion, burning of equipment, abductions, liquidations and other forms of atrocities,” General Guerrero said.

Guerrero added that all units under Eastern Mindanao Command are now on active defense posture.
