MANILA (DWDD) – The Philippine National Police – Internal Affairs Service conducted the preliminary case conference against 20 police officers involved in the raid and eventual death of former Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr at the Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City, Leyte last November 5, 2016.
It can be recalled that the pre-trial was moved due to the lack of needed documents to be submitted by both parties.
According to Atty. Sheila Castillo, Chief of the PNP-IAS Legal Affairs Division, they expect the release of the resolution or result of the investigation on the accused personnel by February.
Twenty (20) police officers, led by Supt Marvin Marcos, conducted a raid inside the Baybay City Jail that led to the death of Mayor Espinosa in an alleged shootout. In a separate investigation of the National Bureau of investigation (NBI), they ruled it as a rubout. The incident also resulted in the death of another inmate, Raul Yap, who’s facing charges of drug pushing. AES / Photos by Amihan Sabillo
